eWomenNetwork Director Kerry Brown asked yoUnlimited’s Carolyne Taylor to create a networking game for the February 17/18 “Be the Best You Can Be in Business” conference held in Victoria.

It ended up being a really great game in which attendees got to explore the exhibit tables and find out what the passion or inspiration of the exhibitors were – plus say what their own passion is.

Some powerful words!

With International Women’s Day only a couple of weeks away we are getting so excited to start participating in the WISH (Women’s International Health Summit) calls again – and one of our very own Victoria ladies is featured – Alice Bracegirdle from BellyFit International graces the WISH summit ‘stage’ this year.  Alice and Tera met last summer when we hosted a yoUnlimited luncheon.

Check out the list of esteemed speakers for 2012 and be sure to subscribe to not miss a single one.

The reason that we love the work that Tera Warner does with this summit is that it’s not one of those ‘listen in 24 hours or you have to buy it’ summits – Tera comes from such a fabulous place of genourisity and service that she continues to make the .mp3′s available for download long after the original session has been done.

We (heart) Tera Warner and her work and can’t wait to start listening!

WISH is All About Women Coming Together to Support One Another

Somaly Mam Foundation

WISH is all about how we come together to find solutions and support one another, and as you know, we don’t use the WISH interviews as a way to make money. This year, we’ll be using the sale of the WISH Workbook to raise funds and awareness for the Somaly Mam Foundation, which is responsible for freeing young women and girls from the hands of sexual slavery.

There’s more at stake here than light entertainment for 40 days and 40 nights.  >> sign up now – you have NOTHING to lose and everything to gain!

yoUnlimited’s Carolyne Taylor chose to launch her new Women’s Business Networking series the same way she does everything else, with open arms and an open heart, and Feb 2nd was no different.

Our afternoon began as all yoUnlimited events do, by making a personal connection.  Over 50 women were encouraged with a networking Bingo game, to meet others around the room, and for those of you who dread that first networking half hour, dread no more – this was fun and a great way to get to know someone new.  And participating by networking gave everyone an opportunity to win a copy of Success Magazine, an added bonus.  Having renewed some old relationships and made some new acquaintances we sat down to a delicious and completely nutritious lunch.  Ambrosia Catering knows how to do lunch!

Following lunch, Carolyne introduced the latest Dirty Wall Project ‘Have a Heart’ fundraiser, recycled plastic bag HEARTS from the Girls Can Be Centre in Mumbai, India along with three sponsors who shared their stories and a little about their latest projects, including the Bridges For Women‘s International Women’s Day on March 8th.  And then it was on to an even more personal connection, hugging, and Rita Chand took to the stage.

This warm and engaging woman made us all proud to be part of the human race as she described an entire year of hugging, and not just hugging, but hugging someone new each day for 365 days. Rita named her journey  "2011:The Year of Hugging Fearlessly" and we were all lifted up by her stories of how hugging changed her and those she put her arms around.  Her hugging took her as far away as Spain,Portugal, Vegas and San Francisco, and while the hugs are unique and the stories may differ, one universal truth remains – we all want to connect to someone and be part of something bigger than ourselves.  After 1014 hugs, Rita reconfirmed what we all know to be true and what Carolyne and Younlimited has represented from the beginning – community – we are all connected.

Would love to share more but gotta run, got some hugging to do…….

If you are left feeling like you want to connect, come join us at the next luncheon, on March 6th.  And you can read more about Rita’s amazing year, at cinderitaadventures.blogspot.com.

My friend Jolie just got back from India where she visited and volunteered with Kane, Cindy and Todd Ryan of the Dirty Wall Project.

Members of the yoUnlimited community joined with other community members in August of 2011 at a Silent Auction held at the Union Pacific Coffee House where we raised about $3,200 – enough to renovate a space in the Saki Naka slum of Mumbai, where women gather every day to learn skills, make connections and learn literacy, art and healthcare at sponsored camps.

While the first products to land in Victoria were expected to be aprons, they have ended up being hearts – but how lovely that it’s just in time for Valentine’s Day and our luncheon next week celebrating Rita Chand’s 365 days of hugging.

These hearts are $8 each, proceeds go to the continued success of the Girls Can Be Centre – and they will be available at the luncheon on Thursday, February 2nd, or by contacting me at info@younlimited.com – there is a limited supply available so if you want one for someone you love let us know!

The professional coaches across Vancouver Island and Gulf Islands from Vancouver Island Coaches invite the entire community to experience the value of coaching.  Learn what coaching is all about  through participation in thought-provoking webinars and an interactive ½ day conference covering many topics related to professional and personal advancement.

What’s at the Heart of Coaching?

February is heart month, hence our Vancouver Island Coaches theme for International Coaching Week is “What’s at the Heart of Coaching”. The focus this year will be coaching with heart, coaching in the heart of our community, coaching in the heart of our organizations and coaching in the heart of our global community.  This is not to say that professional coaching is only about the ‘heart’.  Business executives, entrepreneurs, business owners, and all professionals from all walks of life seek strategies and practical tools for enhanced performance and balance in their busy lives, constantly changing organizations and the dynamic marketplace. Participate this week and realize the value of having a professional coach who acts as a sounding board, confidential conversational partner and someone to keep other professionals focused on their goals and desired outcomes.

This week will be a terrific opportunity for the public from all parts of Vancouver Island and Gulf Islands to discover the resources available through the VI Coaches Association’s diverse membership of business, leadership, and personal coaches.

What’s planned for the week of February 6 to 11, 2012:

“Although our coaching community is quite diverse in geography and coaching genres, the Vancouver Island Coaches Association vision for International Coaching Week is for coaches and clients to educate the public about the value of working with a professional coach and to acknowledge the results and progress made through the coaching process,” says Sherry LeBlanc, President of the Vancouver Island Chapter of the International Coach Federation.  “So offering the learning platform of webinars is an innovative, affordable and accessible way for people to learn and to gain access to many of Vancouver Island’s professional coaches who are dedicating their time to facilitate and educate.  In addition to our webinars this year, we will be hosting a ½ day face-to-face event with a panel of Coaching School representatives and a heartfelt presentation by an island coach who has been coaching on a global initiative.  We are also excited to share that there will be an opportunity for attendees to have a coaching session with a professional ICF coach.  What better way to discover the power of coaching than to actually experience it.”

Again, our business communities and professionals from all parts of Vancouver Island and Gulf Islands are invited to participate. To register for the webinars and/or the ½ day event during the week of Feb 5-11th or to seek more information, please visit www.vicoaches.org.

Invites you to join us in celebrating our heroines

Thursday, January 26, 2012
5:30pm
304-455 Sitkum Rd.

We promise tasty munchies, great stories and lots of laughter while we expand the power of our circle – and put some fun into fundraising!

Dr. Katie Cooke is a Bridges for Women heroine. Many of you may have known her as she brought her intellect, experience and inspiration to the founding of Bridges employment project in 1988 and stuck with us until her death in 2003.

On the evening of January 26, those of us who knew Katie will draw a verbal portrait for you and share some of her stories. Conversation may lead us to ask: Have governments and bureaucracies changed in favour of women and families since Katie’s days?

If you would like to join us, please consider ordering your copy of her manuscript at the same time you register – that way, we can give you a deal! The cost for the evening + Katie’s manuscript is $40. The evening alone is $30; the cost of the manuscript alone is $20. And all of the proceeds will go directly to supporting Bridges’ programs and clients.

In the 1970s, Katie’s promotion of women’s priorities through the Canadian Advisory Committee on the Status of Women was legendary. In 1984, she served as Chair of the Federal Task Force on Child Care and, in 2000 was honoured by the Victoria YWCA with a Woman of Distinction award for a Lifetime of Achievement. As Katie would say “Indeed!”

If you didn’t know Katie, you can get a sense of the woman she was by reading A Civil Tongue, an “unfinished manuscript” in which she shares her life story. It’s full of wit, wisdom and lots of “a-ha” moments, especially for those with a connection to government or women’s issues.

Along the way, we are looking for like-minded women to broaden the power of the Circle and participate in strengthening the foundations of Bridges for Women. Funding through the Circle of Friends can help us respond to the ever growing need for bridging services. It may be support with groceries or additional counseling, or it may be funding for our online program to access women in rural or remote locations. All kinds of support and ideas are needed and appreciated at this gathering.

We’re excited to have you join the Katie Cooke Circle of Friends on January 26

Please RSVP to Lorie Bennett at: lorie-paul@shaw.ca

Donations can be made in monthly installments.
